Covers mental, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders, including substance use disorders, mood disorders, and dementia.

Key coding points

•Substance use, abuse, and dependence follow a hierarchy — when both use and dependence are documented for the same substance, only the dependence code is assigned.
•Dementia codes often require an additional code to identify the underlying cause (e.g. Alzheimer's disease) and, where documented, the presence of behavioral disturbance.
